Policy Council Members
What is the Policy Council?
- The Policy Council meets one night each month
- They report to other Head Start parents at the monthly parent meetings regarding what is taking place with Policy council.
- Each term runs from October to October.
- They help establish long and short term goals for Head Start/Early Head Start
- They also approve or disapprove the following:
- Budget
- Financial Statements
- Personnel Issues
- Policies & Procedures and By-laws
- Monthly Reports
- Director's reports
- Other items as added
- Committees included but not limited to:
- Executive Committee
- Personnel Committee
- Grievance Committee
- Grants/Fiscal Comittee
- Special Committee
Composition of Policy Council
The Policy Council will have a maximum of 14 members. All may serve three one year terms, but must stand for election each year. 51% of the Policy Council must be current parents. They meet on the 4th Monday of the month.
Elections take place at orientation meetings. All enrolled parents are eligible to vote. A simple majority of votes cast will elect respresentatives and community representatives. They will receive training and will be seated 45 days from the start of the program.
